Plot: Deadly Crow Arc

All over the world, an epidemic has taken place. So far, the death count for the virus is in the millions globally. Fear and anxiety are at an all-time high, resulting in widespread chaos. Information about the virus is limited and it is believed that it spreads through direct contact with infected individuals. However, as of this time no one is certain and there is even reason to believe that it may be airborne.

The virus itself spreads between Mages and normal people with little discrimination between the two. There is, however, one key fundamental difference between the two groups. While the mortality rate for normal individuals is frighteningly high, Mages appear to only show flu and fever-like symptoms while also losing the ability to use any magic.

This has led to alienation between the two groups. Mages obviously don't want to catch it in fear of losing their magic, whereas ordinary folk blame Mages for the virus due to the fact that they aren’t even dying upon catching it. This torrent of anxiety and resentment has even led to the two sides clashing on a number of occasions, which in turn, has only led to more tension between the two sides.

Even the government itself has failed to act on the situation due to the unknown nature of the virus. The only real information available to the world is the fact that once someone catches the disease, they will develop a full-body rash that will then break out into spots. As the disease progresses, the spots will begin to cluster at one central location before taking the shape of a black bird. For this reason, the virus has been dubbed as the “Deadly Crow Disease” or DCD. Also, for some unknown reason, Fiore has the least amount of cases involving infected individuals.

You can participate in this plot by requesting a quest from a staff member or by being thrown into a random staff quest.

Each completed quest will move the plot forward until an event thread is unlocked.

Before wary of boards with an outbreak of the virus, as these will result in a rather high chance of catching DCD.

Staff may also infect threads with the virus. If this happens, be careful and do all you can to not get infected.

The stages of the Deadly Crow Disease

The DCD comes in three stages that progressively deteriorate the infected individual’s health. For a mage, not only does this gradually make them feel worse, but the overall strain also results in limited use of magic. If you do somehow catch the virus, please add this information to your bio somewhere and state what stage the disease has progressed to. It is also important to note that infected individuals may still be saved, however, they will need to quest for information that will ultimately lead to the cure in order to remove the sickness from themselves.

Stage One

Black spots will appear on the infected individual’s back. These spots are the first sign that the disease has been caught. At this stage, the individual’s breathing will become laboured, resulting in a difficulty performing physically exhaustive tasks. Magic will not be hindered at all in this stage.

Stage Two

The virus will automatically progress to this stage two threads after catching the DCD. At this stage, the spots will begin to cluster and form the vague shape of a bird across the infected individual’s back. Symptoms at this point will include difficulty sleeping and a sickening pain throughout the individual’s body which will be akin to bed sores. Due to this strain, a minimum of 500 words will be needed in the post the mage is attempting to cast a spell or use magic.

Stage Three

The virus will automatically progress to this stage five threads after catching the DCD. At this point, the virus will have spread across the individual’s back to form the distinct shape of a black bird. Not only will the infected individual be plagued constantly by all of the aforementioned conditions, but now they will also be joined by constant and rather violent coughing. Attempting to cast any spell will require a post with a minimum of 1500 words. It will also become impossible to use or cast any spells with a rank higher than the mage’s own rank.

Known information about the virus:

• The virus spreads via direct skin contact with an infected indivdual.
• The virus may also survive for quite some time inside of a vial of blood.
• Recent events have lead to an wide-scale outbreak throughout South Fiore.
• It is best to take down infected individuals with blunt attacks in order to minimize transmission via blood.
